A Short Sermon by Brother Greg
1 Corinthians 12:18 (NKJV)
“But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased.”
We are individual members of the church body of Christ. We are here because He placed us here. We have what we need because He gifted us. We desire to use these gifts for the purpose for which we were created…to share the love of God, the Gospel (the life, death, resurrection, and coming again of Jesus Christ).
As children of God, the Lord lives within us; we are not alone. He prepares and equips each of us for our journey. Everyone has a purpose and a place (Jer 29:11). “But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift” (Eph 4:7).
All spiritual gifts are intended for the same common goal: to unite and build up the body of Christ, the local church. It is the responsibility of each child of God to seek his purpose and place within the body. “From whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love” (Eph 4:16).
As Christians, we often testify to the experience of “being saved” (Rom 10:9), but have we shared a deeper testimony by explaining the purpose for which we are saved? Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
The Lord sends us the Holy Spirit with power to accomplish these works as witnesses to the world (Acts 1:8). Our place in the local church body should be a proper expression of our walk. Matthew 7:7 tells us, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”
Today, many churches suffer because members of the body believe that attending church is enough. There is a place for everyone, and everyone should find his place. Imagine how vibrant the church can be when we truly desire to be the church (1 Cor 3:16).
Ask the Lord to reveal your purpose and place, and walk in a way that honors God’s design…It will be the most refreshing walk you’ll ever experience!
