Christian Character

A Short Sermon by Brother Greg

Proverbs 11:3

“The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the perversity of the

unfaithful will destroy them.” Proverbs 10:9 says, “He who walks with integrity walks securely, but he who perverts his ways will become known.” The word “integrity” is defined as incorruptible, soundness, and completeness; “perverse” is defined as corrupt, improper, and incorrect.

We either walk with integrity or we walk in a perverse manner; either way will manifest itself in time. The only way we can be incorruptible is to put on Christ and be born again. “…having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God, which lives and abides forever” (1 Pet 1:23).

There is a right way and a wrong way to live. Everyone must choose a path, but for the child of God, there is only one way (John 14:6). Integrity leads to a faithful and eternal life with God. Perversity leads to destruction and eternal separation from God. Once we take our last breath…the consequence of our choice is final (Rev 20:11-15; 21:1-5).

“For He says: In an acceptable time, I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you. Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” (2 Cor 6:2). Christian character starts now! Christian character reflects the life of Jesus consistently. When we are in Christ, we are filled with the Holy Spirit. This means we, as children of God, demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit. “You will know them by their fruits” (Mt 7:16). Praise the Lord!

Psalm 68:19 says, “Blessed be the Lord, who daily loads us with benefits, the God of our salvation!” Being a Christian isn’t a job, it’s a reward! A child of God doesn’t clock in when walking into church then clock out when exiting. Diluted faith leads to an inconsistent relationship with the Lord and causes one to wander away from God. “Your wickedness will correct you, and your backsliding will rebuke you” (Jer 2:19). God is merciful and compassionate toward His children. “I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely, For My anger has turned away from him” (Hos 14:4).

Being a Christian means we believe in Jesus’ name, and we live for Him because we are His.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” --John 1:12
